I was never a morning person. I considered myself a night owl. But this routine literally changed my life. Okay, that sounds a little dramatic but it did. Continue reading to find out how...

When I was growing up, I remember I always had a hard time waking up in the morning. My dad always had to wake me up several times because it was just so difficult for me to wake up by myself. Fast forward to high school years it became even more difficult. I went to an all girls boarding high school and my biggest struggle was... you guessed it... waking up early. My name was on the discipline list every Friday for being "late to this" and "late to that" because I struggled to do one thing... waking up early in the morning. I remember NO ONE was willing to wake me up in the morning because everyone knew this about me, Lol. Fast forward to adulthood, I'm one of those who have to set several alarms in the morning in order to fully wake up. Sometimes, I'd unconsciously turn off the alarm, smh. Ok ok, so you get the idea, I can't wake up early in the morning for the life of me. Haha, let's get on with it.
For the past few years my number one goal was to perfect my everyday routine and be consistent in building healthy daily habits. Wake up a certain time and setting up a schedule to be productive for the rest of the day are just some of the habits I wanted to implement in my everyday routine. I'm far from perfecting my daily routine but one day I woke up early and went for a morning walk. Did that whole week change for me!
The world slows down for a moment
I know a lot of people who wake up and starts rushing to make their coffee because they know they cannot function without their caffeine. I used to be like that. Because I'm so used to the rush hour, it's almost like I'm programmed to wake up and rush. But after the morning walk, the world seemed slow (in a good way). It was a different feeling for me to wake up and actually be cognizant of every little thing. I was able to breathe, listen to music, enjoy the scenery of grass and flowers without feeling like I need to be somewhere else at that moment. It's almost like time is frozen and you are a passerby looking at everything around you move. I enjoy it so much.
Increased Energy Level
I struggled so much with low energy which obviously affects your day negatively. I was not as productive as I would like to be and after that morning walk it's as if it set the tone for the whole week. I had more energy rolling in till the next day to only be fueled by my next morning walk. It's a feeling that is very foreign to me. Foreign but good. I'm loving the energy boost!
Improved mood and overall health
There are many studies, articles and blogs that will tell you that morning walk has many benefits to our health so I won't talk about why it is beneficial to walk in the morning. I'll just talk about how much it changed me after one morning walk. Like I said in the beginning, it sets the pace for not just your day but your whole week. I was motivated to do more after I come back from my walk. It positively influenced me to be more productive and be healthier. I wanted to juice and eat a healthy breakfast and do chores in the morning and so on and so on. I'm just a much better person, I feel like, after my morning walk, lol.
Get Inspired
I always said I'm not a morning person. Maybe I still am not a morning person but I can train my body to enjoy things I once despised. Knowing the positive outcome of my morning walks motivates me to wake up in the morning and go for a walk.
My goal from now on is to be more mindful and intentional in the things I do and the place I go. Morning walks allows me to think, meditate and pray. It serves as therapy for me to do it and even though I have to make that conscious decision to go do it, it is so worth it when I do.
New resolution doesn't start at New year, it STARTS NOW!
🧡Sincerely, Balie
